History
Jitterpug Kennel is still very young. The kennel’s
name was confirmed in May 2005, but four litters already bear
the name Jitterpug.
Dogs, however, have been a part of my life since
1968 when I got my first pug, Jaska (Rosedale Bluebeard), from
Leena and Leila Gauffin’s kennel, Rosedale. The race was
rightly chosen: a soft and gentle little dog to hug.
After Jaska came a male, Jasseri, the most personal
pug I’ve ever known. One unfortunate part of that great
personality was that he never could forgive me the birth of my
first child. I had no choice but to give him to my sister Minna,
with whom he lived many happy years.
Years passed by without a dog while my daughters
were young. But there lingered, deep in my heart, the desire
to have another little pug one day. At last, in 1990, my wish
came true when Sinimetsän Uranus, better known as Henkka,
came into our life. Later on he also became progenitor of the
crowd we now have here. Of course Henkka needed a friend, and
so in 1991, Laku-Pekka (Sinimetsän Musta Yliveto), a black
male, moved in.The year after that Eero (Sinimetsän Ai-Ai)
came to live with us. In 1993 we were again without a ‘baby’,
so we went to fetch Paavo (Sinimetsän Humu-Petteri) from
Sini and Esa. Sadly, Paavo developed such a bad lesion on his
spine that his young life ended before he was one-year-old.
At the same time Mosse (Sinimetsän Figaro)
was looking for a new home, and of course we offered ours. Mosse
proved to be a very good breeder, who even at the age of 10 and
11 fathered a couple of great litters. We had hoped for a son from his
last litter, but his mate produced only bitches. The decision
was then easy: Mosse’s daughter, Tessi-Lotta, joined our
family in 2002. In 2003, Nuppu, another of Mosse’s daughters
from the same mate, joined us.
With Tessi and Nuppu the idea of our girls having
puppies became reality. Both ladies have given birth to two litter
each, and my own enthusiasm for raising pugs is increasing. Daisy, Nuppu's daughter from his second litter (2007), stayed with us and our black girls Miisa came from Sinimetsä that very same year.
Jitterpug is not only a play on words: I would
like to emphasize the importance of breeding healthy and joyful
pugs, whose lives will hopefully be long and full of "dancing"!
Photos: The two first ones of Rosedale Bluebeard
(Jaska) are taken by Leila or Leena Gauffin in the year 1968.
The next two are taken of Jasser by Harri Slip
- years 1979-1980. The last one is probably taken by my mother
in the year 1975.
